February Freeze Fun Run/Walk set for Sunday Feb. 21

RAPID CITY, S.D. (Feb. 10, 2021) – Due to inclement weather, this year’s annual February Freeze 5k Fun Run/Walk event will take place on Feb. 21. The event will add  a virtual element to keep participants safe while still celebrating Cardiac Rehabilitation Week.

The free event begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Storybook Island Shelter, 2911 Canyon Lake Dr. in Rapid City. Registration runs from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Participants are asked to wear their mask while at the event, when social distancing isn’t possible. All participants must sign a race waiver and answer COVID-19 screening questions. Hand sanitizers will be stationed at the picnic shelter, and all staff and volunteers will be required to wear masks.

While waiting, you can help yourself to healthy snacks and talk with former cardiac patients and hospital staff. After the run/walk, participants are invited to gather at the picnic shelter for post-race snacks and prize drawings. This year, 36 sponsors are offering prizes and refreshments for the 2021 February Freeze Fun Run/Walk. Those who wish to participate virtually will still be eligible to enter for door prizes.

Long-sleeved T-shirts are available for $20 the day of the event or at Rapid City Hospital beforehand. Check the Monument Health February Freeze webpage for times and places of T-shirt sales.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Week is a national effort by cardiac rehabilitation professionals and the patients they serve to reduce the effects of heart disease. Special events like the February Freeze 5K Run/Walk are held across the country to raise awareness and celebrate cardiac patient’s special accomplishments.
