April 24, 2024 Hospice Ball raises money for health care in the Northern Hills

Spearfish, S.D. (April 24, 2024) – Nearly $110,000 was raised during the 27th annual Northern Hills Hospice Ball held on Saturday, April 6. Monument Health hosts the annual event to help raise awareness and support for hospice patients and their families.

Proceeds from this year’s event supported hospice care in the Northern Hills and a fund-a-mission portion of the event supported the expansion of the Monument Health Spearfish Hospital.

“On April 6 we yet again witnessed the Northern Hills community showing up to help uphold the dignity and support of our local Hospice patients,” said Hans Nelson, Director of the Monument Health Foundation. “This was a very successful year, raising nearly $110,000 towards Hospice Home Care programs and equipment purchases. These funds will support caregivers with new state of the art equipment, bereavement education and family support services. Thank you to all of our attendees, sponsors and most importantly our hospice caregivers.”

The event also honors those who have dedicated their lives to hospice programs throughout the Northern Hills and the greater Black Hills region. Debbie Crowley, hospice care nurse aide, received this year’s Dignity Award. Past winner, Deborah Kullerd, M.D., presented Debbie with the award and said, “When Debbie joined the organization as a home aide, she was quickly recognized by home health and hospice staff as simply, the best. Patients respond to her warmth, acceptance and capable and confident professionalism. She quietly makes the rest of us better.”
