RAPID CITY, S.D. (Oct. 3, 2022) – Jami Kortan, a physician assistant at Monument Health Spearfish Clinic, North Ave, has received a Clinical Excellence Award. Recipients of the Clinical Excellence Award exemplify a commitment to the practice of medicine and to Monument Health’s mission, vision, and values. Their knowledge, skill and professionalism in day-to-day interactions with patients, families and colleagues reflect their commitment to clinical excellence. She was nominated by a colleague.

The colleague wrote, “Jami provides her patients and their families with care that is unmatched. She is always checking in on her patients, taking the time to call them personally. She has one of the busiest clinical practices in our system, but never lets her busy schedule make patients and their parents feel any less heard or attended to. She makes families feel safe and well informed. She is so deserving of this award.”

Criteria for the Clinical Excellence Award includes:

  • Must be an employed physician or provider. 
  • Exceptional knowledge and skill within their specialty which enables them to provide excellent clinical care.
  • Shows respect to patients, families and colleagues through compassion, empathy, courtesy and patience.
  • A strong sense of pride and professional passion for serving patients.
  • Consistently provides exceptional patient experiences and clinical outcomes.
  • Continues to provide direct patient care.

Anyone can nominate a Monument Health physician or provider for this award. Nominations are reviewed and a monthly award selection is made by the Physician Operations Group. One award will be given out monthly.

The Monument Health Physician Operations Group established this award in 2022 as a way to recognize the commitment to excellence physicians and providers show their patients. The Clinical Excellence Award is awarded to those who show respect to patients, families and colleagues through compassion, empathy, courtesy and patience.
