Grief Counseling and Support Groups

Grief Counseling Services: Monument Health Hospice offer individual, couples, and family grief counseling. Counselors are licensed professional social workers with specialized training and experience in grief and loss. Since people grieve differently, we offer counseling to meet the distinctive needs of different age groups and types of loss.

Support Groups: Monument Health Hospice have educational, supportive grief groups available. These groups bring people together who have experienced loss and provide a safe environment to share experiences and learn from one another. We provide a variety of groups throughout the year in Custer, Belle Fourche, Hot Springs, Rapid City, Spearfish and Sturgis.

Communities with Support Groups

Rapid City

Tweens & Teen group. Third Tuesday 3:30-4:30 pm, Ages 12-18. This monthly support group is held in the conference room in the lower level of the Monument Health Hospice House 224 Elk Street.
New Adult Closed Group. First Tuesday/Monthly 1:00-2:00 pm, for 4 weeks –new group starts every month. Support group is held in the conference room in the lower level of the Hospice House 224 Elk Street.
Grieving Parent Closed Group. Loss from miscarriage to adolescent. Two 10 week groups per year. Please call (605)-755-7729. Meetings held off campus, please call for location.
Grieving Parent Monthly Open Group. Loss from miscarriage to adolescent. Meets 1^st Thursday of month from 6-7pm. Meetings held off campus, please call for location.
Adult Open Group that is open to anyone. Meets 1^st and 3^rd Thursdays 5:45-6:45 pm. This support group is held in the conference room in the lower level of the Hospice House at 224 Elk Street. New group starts each quarter.

Hot Springs

The second Friday of the month 12:00- 1:15 pm is a support group that is open to anyone dealing with loss and grief. Held at the Hot Springs Public Library, 2005 Library Drive, Hot Springs SD 57747.

Custer

The fourth Friday of the month from 12:00-1:00 pm is a support group that is open to anyone dealing with loss and grief. Held in the Executive Conference Room of the Monument Health Custer Hospital, 1220 Montgomery Street, Custer, SD 57730.

Belle Fourche, Spearfish, and Sturgis

In the Northern Hills, occasional 10-week Understanding Your Grief Support Classes are offered based on pre-registration. A minimum of 4 participants are required. The location of the support classes rotates among the communities of Belle Fourche, Spearfish, and Sturgis. Call 605-644-4444 and ask for the Northern Hills Bereavement Coordinator to register. There is no charge for the reading/journaling materials and no charge for the class.
