Your doctors are world class. Really. From your front office, technicians and nurses you are well supported with the same standard the doctors practice. Clearly you are a team of professionals that care deeply and honor their oaths of duty.
Monument Health’s athletic trainers are highly qualified professionals. We work with physicians to provide preventive services, emergency care, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for injuries and medical conditions.
Our athletic trainers’ expertise ranges from minor sprains to severe head and neck injuries, minor illnesses to heat stroke. We combine hands-on work with patient education to prevent injury and re-injury.
Athletic Training Services include:
- Physical exams
- Cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility assessments
- Strength and conditioning programs
- Injury diagnosis and treatment plans
- Expertise with braces, splints and assistive devices
- Education on nutrition and hydration
- Emergency care
- Therapeutic interventions — to restore range of motion, strength and balance
Our athletic trainers support athletes at our high schools and the region’s two colleges, South Dakota School of Mines & Technology and Black Hills State University. Athletic trainers optimize participation in work and life – reducing injuries and rehabilitation time, which translates to lower absenteeism and greater contributions.
Strength and Conditioning Training
Monument Health’s Performance Coaches are responsible for establishing and maintaining the performance programs for all sports, with the three major goals of improving athletic performance, reducing athletic injuries, and teaching lifelong fitness and movement skills. Our coaches devise training plans according to sound scientific principles, supervise training sessions, evaluate athletes, and maintain athlete records. Coaches work alongside team sport coaches to determine what athletes can do to improve performance. When working with injured athletes, coaches will collaborate with the sports medicine and athletic training staff to facilitate the safe return to competitive athletic participation. Coaches are responsible for maintaining the performance facilities and for establishing policies, plans, and procedures for the safe and professional operation of the performance program.
WE’RE PROUD TO BE ON THE TEAM!
Our Sports Medicine practitioners and certified athletic trainers are Monument Health’s front line to athletes at every level. We work closely with our therapists and physicians in communities throughout the Black Hills.
