Monument Health Nurse Brooke Lappe wins DAISY Award

RAPID CITY, S.D. (June 4, 2019) – Brooke Lappe, BSN, RN, who works in the Orthopedics/Neurosurgery/Surgical Department at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, was the May winner of the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community.

“Brooke was a superstar. Anytime I needed anything she was there. She was very aware [of] when I was awake and checked on me, not just because it was time for pain meds or an assessment,” wrote the patient who nominated her. “But something even more special stuck out about her. She took the time to visit with my support person, ensured her needs were being met … and she answered all the questions she had. Needless to say, she felt that I was in good hands for the night and she was able to go home.”

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. Nurses are also honored in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Spearfish and Sturgis. Visit to nominate.
