Abdominal pain


Pain from inside the abdomen or the outer muscle wall, ranging from mild and temporary to severe and requiring emergency care.

Self-care

For heartburn or gas, try over-the-counter antacids or anti-gas drugs, and eat smaller meals. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen sodium, as these can worsen some conditions.

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Severe pain that worsens with movement
  • Fever
  • Vomiting or bloody diarrhea
  • Abdominal swelling
  • Chest pain or pressure
