Malingering

To intentionally pretend to have a disease in order to achieve another goal.

Overview

Malingering is the act of intentionally pretending to have a disease in order to achieve another goal, such as to avoid work or to win a lawsuit. It's not the same as factitious disorder (Munchausen syndrome), a mental condition in which someone pretends to be sick for no obvious reason.
