The Rapid City Hospital Pharmacy focuses on the clinical aspect of patient care and is committed to patient safety. The department is composed of more than 100 pharmacy caregivers including 30 inpatient pharmacists. The Inpatient Pharmacy is open 24-hours per day, seven days a week, and provides pharmaceutical services across a broad range of patient populations. Remote pharmacy satellites provide services to pediatrics, NICU, surgery, procedure areas, the Cancer Care Institute and infusion. Additional pharmacy services include hospice/home care, dialysis, ambulatory care clinic, specialty pharmacy, HIV Clinic, Family Medicine Residency Clinic, home infusion, informatics and retail pharmacy.
Decentralized pharmacists are available on the medical, intensive care, emergency, orthopedic/neurology/surgical, cardiac, dialysis, hospice, pediatric and neonatology units. They provide an array of pharmaceutical care services including drug dosing and monitoring, identification and resolution of medication therapy issues, participation in multidisciplinary rounds, antimicrobial stewardship, 24-hour response to medical alerts, drug order reviews and verification, drug information support, adverse drug reaction monitoring, renal dosing, and IV to PO conversions. Pharmacists also precept pharmacy students and have relationships with several pharmacy schools.
Our hospital and department have implemented computerized physician order-entry, bar-code medication administration, smart pumps and tech-check-tech. The department also provides central automation filling and order-entry processing for facilities across the region and 24-hour coverage of several off-site locations.
