Monument Health Foundation pilots Grateful Patient Program in Custer

CUSTER, S.D. (Aug. 21, 2019) – The Monument Health Foundation recently launched the Grateful Patient Program at Custer Hospital and Clinic to help patients, family members and friends honor extraordinary care by a physician or caregiver through a gift to the foundation. The physician or caregiver receives a hand-written note and a lapel pin to wear proudly.

Priscilla Romkema, Foundation President, said patients, family members and friends routinely ask how they can express their gratitude for the extraordinary and compassionate care they receive at Monument Health. “The Grateful Patient Program was established as a way to say ‘thank you’ and recognize those who made a meaningful impact on the care they or a loved one received,” she said.

The Foundation chose Custer Hospital and Clinic as its pilot location for the program because of its supportive community. “Custer has such a supportive community and their physicians and caregivers play a large role not only in taking care of their health needs but are active community members. You are either related to or know someone who works at Monument Health. It seemed like the perfect location to pilot the program,” Romkema said.
