SPEARFISH, S.D. (March 28, 2022) – Michaela Davis, a Registered Nurse at Spearfish Hospital, has received the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community. She was nominated by a patient.
The patient wrote, “When I entered Spearfish Hospital and Michaela became one of my care providers, I believed that I had a special nurse taking care of me. She was not only very professional, but demonstrated something special. I knew I wasn’t her only patient, but I felt like I was. I knew she had many tasks, but when I needed something, she always acted like it wasn’t too much to ask. I feel Michaela is someone special, deserving of the class of extraordinary nurse. She is certainly compassionate, kind, sincere, trustworthy, passionate and caring at the highest level. Thank you Spearfish Hospital for hiring someone who elevates our community’s care facility.”
The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. Nurses are also honored in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Spearfish and Sturgis. Visit monument.health/daisy to nominate.
