WHAT IS MEDICARE?
Medicare is the federal health insurance program for:
- People who are 65 or older
- Certain younger people with disabilities
- People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant)
Medicare’s free “What’s covered” app delivers accurate cost and coverage information right on your smartphone. Now you can quickly see whether Medicare covers your service in the doctor’s office, the hospital, or anywhere else you use your phone. “What’s covered” is available for free on both the App Store and Google Play.

As an organization, Monument Health wants to provide you information on observation services that can be provided in our hospital settings. The below video explains the Medicare rules we must follow and also provides you with key information that is helpful for you and your families to be aware of, should you be admitted to the hospital as an observation patient.
The different parts of Medicare help cover specific services:
- Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.
- Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers certain doctors’ services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
- Medicare Part D adds prescription drug coverage.
- Medicare Advantage (also known as Part C) is an “all in one” alternative to Medicare. These bundled plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D.
