Rapid City, S.D. (Nov. 14, 2019) – Regional Health today announced it will become Monument Health in January 2020. It will continue to employ more than 4,500 physicians and caregivers in 20 Western South Dakota and Eastern Wyoming communities after the name change.

“Our new name, Monument Health, will more accurately represent who we are to the region,” said Monument Health President and Chief Executive Officer Paulette Davidson. “We are proud of our commitment to quality and safe clinical care to patients, and we want to continue that as a permanent part of our communities. We will have a lasting impact on future generations to come.”

This is part of a systemwide organizational renaming and rebranding. The name change is the result of a collaborative process that included online surveys and focus groups with Black Hills residents and others in the region.

The M-shaped, five-diamond logo represents Monument Health’s five priorities:

  • Deliver high-quality care
  • Provide a caring experience
  • Be a great place to work
  • Impact our communities
  • Be here for generations to come

The five diamonds are in the shape of an “M” for Monument. The three filled-in center diamonds represent Monument Health’s vision: It starts with heart. Diamonds also hold strong symbolism to signify transformation.

“As Monument Health, we will continue to focus on delivering quality care while showing compassion to our patients, each other and our communities,” said Davidson. “We are taking the next steps in providing a stronger future and healthier communities for generations to come.”

In addition to the name change, Monument Health is planning to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network in January 2020. Monument Health will remain independent and becomes part of a select group of health systems carefully vetted by Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic. Local physicians are granted special access to Mayo’s knowledge, expertise and resources and can quickly access Mayo’s latest research, diagnostic and treatment resources whenever they feel it will benefit Monument Health patients.

“Mayo Clinic did a comprehensive evaluation that included an in-depth review of the Regional Health (soon to be Monument Health) organization, its clinical and business practices, and its quality, safety and service efforts,” said Dr. David Hayes, medical director for Mayo Clinic Care Network. “Patients experience the confidence of being able to access Mayo’s medical expertise through their trusted local doctor, with the comfort and convenience of staying close to home.”

Today Monument Health employs the most accomplished doctors in the region, and this clinical collaboration gives its doctors an additional resource. As part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, Monument Health doctors can consult directly with Mayo specialists on their patients’ behalf whenever they feel it will benefit their care.

“We are thrilled to be selected to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network. This is reflective of our focus on delivering quality, patient-centered care,” said Davidson.
