Monument Health Rapid City Hospital Honors DAISY Winner

RAPID CITY, S.D. (October 8, 2018) – Maggie Navarrete, a registered nurse at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses across the United States who go above and beyond for their patients and community. Maggie was nominated by a patient’s wife for her kindness, compassion, professionalism and care.

“We could never forget the extraordinary compassion and care she showed to us and my husband, Bryan, during his final days fighting cancer. She is so special because of the high level of care she gave to Bryan during his stay. It was a huge blessing and a relief to watch her attend him. Maggie was attentive to his every need and went above and beyond to make him comfortable. We found her immediately trustworthy as she shared her knowledge and skill in each thing she did. We knew Bryan was in the best of hands. She shared in our tears, too,” the patient’s wife wrote. “My kids and I would like to thank Maggie from the bottom of our hearts for all she has done. Her impact on our lives, even in that short time, will never be forgotten.”

The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses recognizes those who display dedication to the health and wellness of their patients. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” The DAISY Award continues to recognize and celebrate the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and their families every day.
Nurses at Monument Health Rapid City Market are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. To nominate a Monument Health nurse for the DAISY Award, please visit www.regionalhealth.org/daisy.
