RAPID CITY, S.D. (Jan. 26, 2020) – John Cina, Registered Nurse with Surgical Services at Monument Health’s Orthopedic & Specialty Hospital, has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses across the United States who go above and beyond for their patients and community. John was nominated by three former patients who commented on his kindness, calm manner and efforts to go above and beyond for his patients.
One patient said John was the calming factor they didn’t know they needed. Another said John made them feel safe and cared for. “John truly embodies the art of nursing. His genuine nature, compassion, sincerity, integrity, passion and care truly made a difference.” The third patient said John was amazingly kind and compassionate. “I was afraid and in pain, and John was very kind to me. He is fantastic.”
The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses recognizes those who display dedication to the health and wellness of their patients. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” The DAISY Award continues to recognize and celebrate the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and their families every day.
