Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative Medicine

Monument Health’s physicians are leaders in the rapidly changing field of Regenerative Medicine. We use advanced techniques to help patients quickly heal from acute injuries or medical conditions like back pain, spinal injuries, torn ligaments and joint pain from age-related deterioration. If you’ve been dealing with a chronic condition, a degenerative problem or an acute injury, the specialists at Monument Health can help your body target its healing ability to try to help you resume an active, healthy lifestyle.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA THERAPY (PRP)

This technique uses the patient’s own platelets in a concentrated form, which are injected into damaged tissue. This can speed healing, and reduce pain. Sprained ankles, for example, can benefit from platelet-rich plasma injections. Call us today for an appointment with one of our outstanding Regenerative Medicine specialists.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a technique used in orthopedics, physical and occupational therapy, and sports medicine. It is a non-surgical, non-invasive therapy that transmits focused acoustic waves to the affected tissue. These waves stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms to aid in the reduction of pain, restoration of normal tissue function, and reducing the need for medications and/or significant activity modification.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is used in orthopedics, physical and occupational therapy, and sports medicine. It is a non-surgical, non-invasive therapy that uses focused light to stimulate a process called photobiomodulation (PBM). During PBM, photons enter the affected tissue and trigger a biological cascade of events that leads to an increase in cellular metabolism, which can decrease pain and inflammation and accelerate the healing process.

Palliative Care

Palliative Care can be provided in many settings including hospitals, clinics and in the home. Our team consists of providers, social workers and registered nurses. Spiritual services are also available. Palliative Care can decrease suffering, worry and anxiety related to serious illness while increasing the sense of support. It can also provide clear direction for next steps once the hospital stay is concluded.

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care is Integrated Medical Care. Palliative care specialists work together with you, your family and other medical providers and specialists to provide high-quality care at any stage in your illness. Palliative care can be provided alongside ongoing treatments and provides coordinated care across multiple care settings (hospital, clinic).

What this means for you: Improved quality of life throughout the course of living with serious illness.

Palliative Care Services

Expertise in Complex Symptom Management

Palliative care providers complete specialized training that focuses on managing pain, shortness of breath, nausea, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and other complex symptoms related to serious illness.

What this means for you: Better relief from
distressing symptoms.

Whole-person, Patient-centered Care

Certification emphasizes a whole-person model of care, which addresses physical symptoms and emotional, social and spiritual concerns. Certified providers are trained to work with nurses, social workers, chaplains and therapists to support the
patient and their family.

What this means for you: Care that respects your values, goals, culture and personal definition of quality of life.

Information You Can Understand

Serious illness often brings difficult choices about treatments, compromises and future planning. Palliative care providers are specifically trained in communication skills, which emphasize:

  • Clear goals of care
  • Complex medical information explained clearly
  • Help weighing benefits vs. burdens of treatments
  • Support in advanced care planning and decision-making

What this means for you: Patient-focused medical care plans aligned with what matters most to you.

Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Spirometry is our most basic and common test. It measures how much air you breathe in and out of your lungs, and how quickly you breathe out.
  • Lung volume testing measures the volume of air in the lungs, and how much air remains at the end of a normal breath. We use both the nitrogen washout test, where you breathe into a mouthpiece, and the lung plethysmography test. Lung plethysmography tests are performed in a small, airtight room at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.
  • Diffusing or diffusion capacity tests measure how easily oxygen enters the bloodstream.
  • Our 6-minute walk test helps evaluate causes of shortness of breath.
  • methacholine challenge test (also known as a bronchoprovocation test) may be used to establish an asthma diagnosis. This test demonstrates whether your airway and lungs become smaller in response to the environment.
