Level II Trauma Center

Opened in 2019 and custom-designed specifically for the needs of trauma patients, our facility includes 5 fully-equipped trauma bays, 4 fully-equipped resuscitation rooms, 6 climate-controlled EMS bays and a rooftop helipad to facilitate rapid access to the Emergency Department. Our advance care staff includes emergency medicine physicians, trauma-trained nursing staff, orthopedic, trauma and neurosurgeons, hospitalist/intensivists, respiratory therapy, radiology, pastoral care and rehabilitation.

Rapid City Hospital is designated as a regional trauma hospital by the South Dakota Department of Health and verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. With a catchment area encompassing portions of South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska and North Dakota we see over 3,000 traumas a year.
