Job Summary

Provide positive leadership as an extension of the management team. Helps direct shift priorities and performs appropriate delegation to ensure the team accomplishes shift goals. Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Consistently and accurately transfers sterile items to the sterile storage area, rotates supplies, and safeguards the integrity of sterile supplies through proper handling.
  • Accurately assembles decontaminated individual items, instruments, and trays. Accurately completes count sheet, tray menu, indicator strips, and sterilizing tapes.
  • Assists with ordering non-sterile and sterile inventory to ensure replacement supplies are readily available when needed.
  • Demonstrates proper care and handling of surgical instruments to prolong life of the instruments.
  • Maintains quality of trays and individually packaged items in circulation. Proactively replaces items that are worn out or in need of repair.
  • Responsible for management notification when items are missing or become broken.
  • Assists with overall process for inventory restocking of Pyxis supply station and Flex track system to ensure appropriate par levels of implants.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competency in decontamination, assembling, sterilizing, storing, distribution, and inventory of equipment, supplies, and implantation devices for patient care.
  • Works cooperatively with OR and Central Sterile to jointly resolve issues or develop better services for surgical implementation.
  • Able to help resolve issues or offer alternatives when instrumentation needs present a challenge to the regular workflow in Central Sterile.
  • Verifies that required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next-day cases.
  • Responsible for clear and precise communication and actions between Central Sterile and the OR. Addresses issues in communication/procedures by routinely reviewing OR schedule and suggesting modifications.
  • Assists in prioritizing processing of instruments and equipment for surgical procedures to facilitate turnover of cases and on time starts.
  • Assists supervisor in day-to-day activities to include answering phones, daily staff assignment sheet and communications with staff members on instrument requirements and availability.
  • Assists with onboarding, orientation, and mentoring of new staff.
  • Shares knowledge with co-workers through open communication and continuous development of skills.
  • Performs real time in-services with SPD staff.
  • Applies and enforces regulations, standards, and hospital policy and procedures pertaining to all areas of sterile processing.

Essential Functions:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Accountable for accurately collecting demographics, confirming patient identity, guarantor assignment, and coverage information and verification from patients or informants including obtaining necessary documents for check-in or admission among various patient settings, utilizing various communication methods (i.e phone, letters, face-to-face, bedside). 
  • Assists in achieving the strategic objectives of Monument Health by following Revenue Cycle guidelines. Including participating in quality assurance and improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of payer information and benefits, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers as well as third party liability payers.
  • Performs point of service collections including prepayments, outstanding balances, co-payment and co-insurance; daily reconciliation of cash drawer.  Provides patients with basic account reconciliation.
  • Initiates financial clearance by providing patient with cost estimates for scheduled services. Properly escalates financial clearance needs on behalf of the patient.
  • Review and understand authorization and referral records to confirm financial clearance.
  • Educates patient and maintains regulatory compliance as required by distributing and/or obtaining required forms and signatures including consents for treatment and financial agreements, ABN/waivers, and other regulatory forms.
  • Performs business office duties including incoming phone calls and messages, in-basket messaging, patient communications, intra-departmental communications, scanning/faxes, taxi vouchers, mail distribution, lost and found, safe and valuables and other duties as assigned.
  • Provides service excellence including way-finding, reception.   • Accurately pick medications from appropriate automated technology for replacement into Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) or distribution to another campus. Sort and restock/waste returned medications; restock code carts, emergency boxes, and ADCs; deliver medications in a timely manner; answer phones professionally and transfer calls appropriately.
  • Act as a positive member of the team. Assist in orienting new personnel; use time wisely; communicate pertinent information; work effectively with pharmacists, technicians and other hospital caregivers; work independently without direct supervision; assist other staff and exhibit an approachable, interactive demeanor.
  • Process and accurately dispose of all waste materials, including all levels of hazardous waste. Knowledgeable of appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and necessary action when receiving or manipulating hazardous medications or during hazardous spills.
