The Vascular Sonographer at Monument Health is responsible for performing ultrasound examinations on patients utilizing a variety of technical aspects. The role requires a full knowledge of vascular principles, ultrasound physics and instrumentation, and the ability to obtain diagnostic images. You will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to obtain high quality images, interpret findings, and provide essential information for patient care.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Able to consistently determine and present high quality exams following department protocols and procedures.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment as well as troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Examines requisition for appropriate orders, exam date, and indication for exam.
  • Acquires appropriate imaging suited towards the indication of examination.
  • Explain procedures to patients and position them correctly to obtain optimal images.  
  • Documents appropriate preliminary results for cardiologist to interpret in EPIC.
  • Demonstrates competency in imaging and transmitting vascular exams to appropriate PACs system and reading physicians.
  • Meets expectations of quality requirements for the lab set by the medical imaging director.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work in a group setting with other providers.
  • Adhere to safely standards and infection control measures.
  • Stay current with advancements in vascular sonography through ongoing education and training. To maintain certification.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:
Education – Associates degree in Applied Science
Certification – Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) Certification – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) – Within 6-months of hire or transfer; Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred:
Experience – 1+ years of Sonographer Experience
Education – Bachelors degree in Ultrasound

Essential Functions:

  • In a Level II trauma hospital, consistently demonstrates a thorough knowledge of patient positioning, principles of DR, fluoroscopy, quality control, image processing, and demonstrates the ability to plan own work. May assist physicians in performing procedures.
  • Reviews patient’s condition, history, and physicians order; consults Radiologist with questions. Determines proper positioning, and selects correct patient from work list.
  • Prepares the patient and the equipment for the upcoming procedure. Educates the patient and/ or family regarding the procedure to be performed. Provides professional age-specific interaction with patients.
  • As appropriate, prepares and administers correct amount of contrast, using aseptic techniques as outlined in the Infection Control manual. Documents appropriately in patients chart. Completed injector training.
  • Provides learning environment and provides exceptional customer service to all.  Friendly, cheerful and helpful to patients and others. Ability to meet patients and others needs while following office policies and procedures in person and on the telephone.
  • Will work as a team with other imaging departments to coordinate patient care and flow throughout care environment.

  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Higher exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common in a level II hospital environment.
  • Understands and uses radiologic safety to minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors and monitored by radiation badges. Proficient with safe handling and moving of patients using ceiling and other lifts.
  • Focuses on patient satisfaction by scheduling appointments promptly and courteously. Obtains accurate information and properly documents on patient scheduling system. 
  • Participates in upkeep of department, i.e, cleanliness of work area, preventive maintenance, stocking of supplies, reports all malfunctioning equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Collects and prepares biological specimens for analyses using appropriate techniques and maintains the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed.
  • Determines acceptability of specimens within established guidelines, avoiding hemolysis, QNS, and wrong anticoagulant use.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Within scope of certification/ license, performs all electrodiagnostic service protocols, procedures, and assessments that have been ordered by a provider.

  • Performs all facets of electroencephalographic (EEG) and EMG in the diagnostic laboratory, patient bedside, or outpatient clinic in accordance with department policy and procedures.

  • Performs all neurodiagnostic procedures for diagnostic purposes and maintains records of reports.

  • Performs daily calibrations and periodic maintenance of all diagnostic testing equipment, records results on maintenance records per departmental policy and reference manuals. Reports equipment problems to the department leadership.

  • Performs EEG Call within the EEG call rotation which includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies necessary to the function of the diagnostic laboratory.

  • Reviews patient records, physician orders, protocols, and data to demonstrate ability for interpretation of subjective and objective information for patient assessment and order validation. Seeks guidance from Director/Supervisor and Medical Director for unresolved issues.

  • Properly completes charges for billing. Makes accurate records in department logbook and processes all other department and hospital paperwork.

  • Consistently assess, identify, demonstrate the ability to communicate and address special needs of patients that are appropriate to the patient specific age group (neonates Birth – 1 month), (pediatrics 1 month – 12 years), (adolescent 1 years), (adults 1 years), (Geriatric 65+ years) when directly or indirectly providing treatment, testing or patient care and assess their level of understanding.
