Nutrition Services
Monument Health Registered Dietitians can develop and guide you through a care plan specific to your health concerns by helping you incorporate nutritious foods into your diet. Our dietitians offer individual consultations, education and support for inpatients and outpatients of all ages with conditions such as allergies, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, digestive disorders, HIV/AIDS, cancer and osteoporosis.
What credentials does a registered dietitian hold?
A registered dietitian (RD) has at least a four-year college degree with additional training, such as an internship, and has passed a national registration exam. Licensed nutritionists (LNs) are certified by the State of South Dakota. Caregivers in Nutrition Services at Monument Health hold either an RD or LN credential.
What can I expect from a nutrition consultation?
We will review your overall health and eating habits. We will then work with you to make positive, realistic changes to help you reach your health goals.
How long does each visit take?
The initial visit usually takes one hour. The number and length of future visits will be decided at this time. Some people are happy with what they have learned in one visit. However, most people need at least one or two extra visits to review how well they are doing with their nutrition program and goals.
I’ve decided to see a dietitian. What do I do now?
Call to schedule an individualized appointment. Self–referrals are always welcome! You may also call your provider to place a referral as some insurances cover your visit only if you meet certain medical conditions.
