RN Jenny Wills wins Daisy Award

RAPID CITY, S.D.  – Jenny Wills, a registered nurse in the Labor and Delivery unit at Rapid City Hospital, has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses across the United States who go above and beyond for their patients and community. Jenny was recently nominated by one of her patients.

“When I had an emergency C-section, I had the kindest, most knowledgeable nurse,” the patient said. “She watched my baby’s monitor like a hawk and was quick to assess that my baby was not tolerating labor. When it was determined that I needed a C-section, Jenny quickly and professionally got me ready. She was so great during the whole procedure, letting me squeeze her hand. I can’t describe a mother’s feeling when she knows her baby is in distress, but Jenny was with me, calming me down. I couldn’t even cry or say a prayer for my baby, I was in shock. I can’t thank Jenny and the rest of the staff enough for being with me through everything.”

The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses recognizes those who display dedication to the health and wellness of their patients. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” The DAISY Award continues to recognize and celebrate the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and their families every day.

Nurses at Monument Health Rapid City Market are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. To nominate a Monument Health nurse for the DAISY Award, please visit www.regionalhealth.org/daisy.
