Monument Health honored for electronic records use

RAPID CITY, S.D. (Sept. 19, 2018) – Monument Health has been recognized for achieving Stage 6 of both the inpatient and outpatient EMR Adoption Model, (EMRAM/OEMRAM) as designated by HIMSS Analytics.

HIMSS Analytics developed the Inpatient EMR Adoption Model in 2005 and the Outpatient EMR Adoption Model in 2012  as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals and clinics in the HIMSS Analytics® LOGIC™.  Tracking their progress in completing eight stages (0-7), hospitals can review the implementation and utilization of information technology applications with the intent of reaching Stage 7, which represents an advanced electronic patient record environment.

“Receiving Stage 6 is truly an honor for Monument Health,” said Stephanie Lahr, M.D., Chief Information Officer and Chief Medical Information Officer at Monument Health. “The HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 designation is a strong indication of our commitment to the proper utilization of health information technology to achieve the highest levels of patient safety and quality care delivery and we are now aggressively pursuing Stage 7.”

Separately, Monument Health was named a Gold Star Hospital by Epic, the software firm that created the electronic health records system that Monument Health adopted in October 2017. The Gold Star Program recognizes health care networks for effective use of Epic.

At Monument Health, more than 85 percent of Epic’s features are being used to engage patients, enhance physician satisfaction and get more value from data. The average Epic organization has currently adopted 73 percent of Epic’s available features.

Based in Wisconsin, Epic is one of the largest providers of health information technology in the United States. The company estimates that 190 million people across the world use Epic and its patient portal, MyChart.
