Student Nurse Extern Program Details
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be in their senior year of an RN Program that is recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA) or the program is a candidate for initial accreditation.
All applicants must be enrolled as full-time students and have a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Student Nurse Fellowship Program
Extending the Externship Experience Into the Academic Year
The Monument Health Student Nurse Fellowship Program is a selective, extended externship opportunity available exclusively to students who have successfully completed the Monument Health Student Nurse Extern Program. Building upon the externship experience, the fellowship provides continued clinical practice, professional mentorship and educational support while students complete nursing school.
Student Nurse Extern Program Details
Program Highlights
- Eligibility is limited to Monument Health Student Nurse Externs selected for fellowship participation.
- Approximately 6-month academic-year fellowship. Dedicated 1:1 RN preceptor-to-Student Nurse Fellow ratio maintained throughout the program.
- Work one clinical shift per pay period while attending nursing school.
- Assigned to a designated clinical unit with ongoing support from nurse leaders and preceptors.
Professional Development
Student Nurse Fellows participate in monthly educational sessions designed to support the transition from student nurse to professional nurse. Topics may include:
- Time Management
- Communication
- Delegation
- Prioritization
- Critical Thinking
These interactive sessions provide opportunities to learn from nursing leaders, collaborate with peers, and build confidence for a successful transition into registered nursing practice.
Transition to Practice
The Student Nurse Fellowship Program is designed to bridge the gap between nursing school and professional practice. Upon graduation and successful completion of the NCLEX-RN®, fellows transition into the Monument Health Nurse Residency Program, where they continue their professional growth and development as newly licensed registered nurses.
