RAPID CITY, S.D. (Sept. 4, 2025) – Monument Health is proud to announce the addition of Tommaso Cambiaghi, M.D., to its nationally recognized Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI). Dr. Cambiaghi joins the award-winning team as a Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, bringing a unique combination of international training and cutting-edge expertise in complex Cardiothoracic and Vascular procedures.

Dr. Cambiaghi’s arrival marks a significant expansion of the specialized services currently offered at HVI, particularly in the areas of complex open and endovascular aortic surgery as well as minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures. His extensive training spans two continents, combining European medical excellence with American surgical innovation.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Cambiaghi to our team,” said Joseph Tuma, M.D., Interventional Cardiologist and Executive Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute. “His dual training in both Vascular Surgery and Cardiothoracic surgery will elevate our program significantly. He perfectly complements our mission to provide world-class cardiovascular care to the communities we serve.”

Dr. Cambiaghi earned his medical degree magna cum laude with honors from the prestigious Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan, Italy, where he also obtained a Master’s degree in Aortic Surgery. He completed his integrated residency and fellowship in Vascular Surgery at McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas, followed by a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the world-renowned Houston Methodist Hospital.

With clinical experience across Europe and the United States, Dr. Cambiaghi specializes in treating patients with aortic dissection and aneurysms, carotid, coronary and peripheral arterial disease, and heart valve pathology. At Monument Health, he will join cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Charan Mungara and perform a comprehensive range of cardiac, thoracic and vascular operations while contributing to HVI’s Advanced Structural Heart and Endovascular programs.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Cambiaghi is actively engaged in advancing cardiovascular medicine through research and education. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, presented his research at international medical conferences, and serves as a peer reviewer for multiple scientific publications. His commitment to innovation is further demonstrated through his involvement in educational initiatives and clinical trials focused on advancing cardiovascular care.

Dr. Cambiaghi joins Monument Health’s Heart and Vascular Institute, which has earned national recognition as a leader in cardiovascular care. The Institute has recently been honored as a High Performing Hospital for abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and heart attack care by U.S. News & World Report and has received Gold recognition from the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines program for Atrial Fibrillation care.

“The opportunity to join such a distinguished program at Monument Health is truly exciting,” said Dr. Cambiaghi. “I look forward to bringing my specialized training to serve patients in this region and to working alongside this exceptional team to continue advancing the standard of cardiovascular care.”
