Molly Cape, RN, receives DAISY Award

RAPID CITY, S.D. (JUNE 27, 2023) – Molly Cape, a Registered Nurse at Rapid City Hospital ICU, has received the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community. She was nominated by a patient’s adult child. 

The patient’s child wrote, “My mom was in the ICU at Monument Health recently and Molly was her nurse for a few days. My mom was very sick. Molly was instrumental in guiding us through very tough decision-making concerning mom’s end-of-life care. She was probably the most straightforward health care provider mom had. While others tended to deliver the sad news with a small dose of unwarranted optimism; Molly was kind and realistic about how the next days were most likely going to unfold.”

The nomination continued, “During mom’s time with Molly, I saw her provide not only attentive medical care, but she was exceptionally kind, gentle and caring with my mom. Clearly Molly loves nursing and our terrible loss was made slightly less painful by her compassionate care.”

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition.
