Self-care

To prevent infection, run water over minor injuries to clean them, and remove any debris with tweezers. Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment, and cover the injury.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

Severe, persistent pain
Red, warm, swollen area
Rapid discoloration of skin
Fever
