Shock

Occurs when organs don't get enough blood.

Self-care

If someone nearby is going into shock, call 911 or the local emergency number and have that person lie down with feet and legs elevated slightly, if possible.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Rapid breathing, fast pulse, and enlarged pupils
  • Cold, clammy skin or pale skin
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Weakness, dizziness, or fainting
  • Abrupt change in personality
