Halitosis


A persistent, unpleasant odor in exhaled breath, usually not serious, commonly called bad breath.

Self-care

Brush teeth and tongue after eating, floss at least once a day, and replace toothbrush regularly. Avoid foods known to cause bad breath, such as onions and garlic.

When to make a doctor's appointment

See a doctor if:

  • Accompanied by fever or nasal discharge with pus
  • Mouth sores can be seen or felt
  • Persists after self-treatment
  • Accompanied by heartburn symptoms or chest pain
