Nightmares


Frightening dreams, usually during REM sleep, that are normal and common in children under 10 and can also affect teens and adults.

Self-care

Avoid scary TV, movies, and Internet content, and try to keep stress to a minimum. Keeping a diary of when nightmares happen may help identify the cause.

When to make a doctor's appointment

See a doctor if:

  • Occur often
  • No longer able to fall asleep
  • Fear of going to sleep
  • Daytime fatigue or unusual behavior
