Overview

Maple syrup urine disease is an inherited condition that makes it hard to break down certain parts of protein (amino acids).

Symptoms

This can result in urine that smells like maple syrup, poor eating, and developmental delays. Symptoms first appear during infancy.

Treatments

Treatment is a low-protein diet that's followed for life.
