Overview

Hemorrhoids happen when veins in the anus or lower rectum become swollen and inflamed. This is usually from straining while passing stool, with obesity or during pregnancy.

Symptoms

Common symptoms are itching, discomfort and bleeding.

Treatments

Nonprescription medicines are usually effective, but sometimes a medical procedure may be needed to get relief.
