Antisocial personality disorder

A chronic mental condition that affects thinking, perceiving, and relating to others.

Overview

Genes play a role in the development of personality disorders. Abuse or instability during childhood also may increase risk.

Symptoms

People with ASPD often have no regard for right and wrong, or for others' feelings. They may manipulate, lie and abuse, and often violate the law. Symptoms may lessen with age.

Treatments

Treatment is difficult and may include talk therapy, drugs, and support for affected family members.
