Overview

Acute pancreatitis is a sudden inflammation in the pancreas. The pancreas is the gland that affects digestion and blood sugar. The condition can last for days. Common causes include gallstones and unhealthy alcohol use.

Symptoms

Symptoms include upper belly pain that radiates to the back and nausea.

Treatments

The condition requires hospitalization. Treatments include IV fluids, medicines, and surgery.
