RAPID CITY, S.D. (July 27, 2021) – Jessie Krueger, a Registered Nurse at Rapid City Hospital, has received the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community.

She was nominated by the father of a newborn patient.

The arrival of a new baby can often come with worry, which is amplified when the infant must be admitted into the NICU. This was the case for the father who nominated Jessie, though her kind treatment eased his concerns. “I walked in to see the nurse, Jessie, holding and caring for him as he was her own, “he said. “I spent some time with him but was very comfortable giving him back to Jessie knowing and seeing how he was in good hands.”

Jessie helped guide the family through the process of getting their son to nurse and gain weight. “We cannot put into words how thankful we are for Jessie, the support she gave us and the care she gave our son,” wrote the nominator.

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. Nurses are also honored in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Spearfish and Sturgis. Visit monument.health/daisy to nominate.
