Jessica Aluise wins Sturgis DAISY Award

STURGIS, S.D. – Jessica Aluise, Registered Nurse in the medical/surgical unit at Sturgis Hospital, recently won the DAISY Award for the Sturgis market. Jessica was nominated by a patient’s family.

“We’d like to recognize the extra special concern, compassion and medical care to make my wife feel loved and tenderly cared for during our hospice stay in Sturgis. Jessie was willing and able to provide whatever level of comfort needed. She went beyond the required nursing duties when we asked her to pray with us, and she willingly and lovingly led us in prayer,” family members wrote.

Jessie was also highlighted by this family at the Festival of Trees in Sturgis. The Patient and Family Advisory Council in Sturgis selects DAISY winners in June and December from nominations submitted by patients and families.

The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses recognizes those who display dedication to the health and wellness of their patients. The DAISY Award was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” The DAISY Award continues to recognize and celebrate the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and their families every day.
