Rapid City, S.D. (Dec. 16, 2020) – Amanda Culberson, a Registered Nurse at Rapid City Hospital’s Labor and Delivery Unit, has received the prestigious DAISY Award. A national program, the award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community. She was nominated by two separate patients.

“She was kind, compassionate, attentive, supportive and most of all, encouraging,” the first patient said. “She was a wonderful encourager when I was doubting my body’s abilities, cheering me on through the entire process. I feel she did an exceptional job, doing all things with such gentle and caring actions. If I could refer a specific nurse to a friend about to go through this, I would 100 percent recommend Amanda.”

The second patient that nominated Amanda had to undergo a procedure, and even though it went well she began feeling horrible pain afterward. She relied on Amanda, who ensured that she got the help that she needed. “Amanda even stayed after her shift was complete to ensure that we were on the mend and that everything pertaining to our case was documented. The patient said. “Her dedication and commitment to myself and my husband did not go unnoticed and we are forever grateful that she happened to be our nurse.”

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. Nurses are also honored in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Spearfish and Sturgis. Visit monument.health/daisy to nominate.
