Nurse John Falcone wins DAISY Award for April

RAPID CITY, S.D.  – John Falcone, BSN, a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, has received the hospital’s prestigious DAISY Award for April. A national program, the DAISY Award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community. Falcone received two nominations.

“I will remember him for the rest of my life,” the patient wrote. “He explained the things that were administered to me; he never was short … and always was very upbeat and lifted my spirits.” The patient added that John was skillful in his clinical care, attentive without prying, and compassionate without being pushy.

“I have been in hospitals all over the world and although Monument Health has many very good nurses, I have never found one that can measure up to this young man,” the other patient wrote. “He goes out of his way to assist with patient comfort, both physically and emotionally by explaining how and why the process is taking place.”

The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.”

Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. Nurses are also honored in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Spearfish and Sturgis. Visit regionalhealth.org/daisy to nominate.
