When Becky Davies, M.D., moved home to the Black Hills, she stepped into a new role as a hospitalist at Monument Health Spearfish Hospital. Trained in Family Medicine, she says, “I enjoy the intensity and pace of the hospital, and seeing how patients are responding to treatments day to day.”
“Being back home means I spend quite a bit more time in my work boots and overalls. I get to spend the majority of my days off outside with my toddler,” she says. “I also get to work in the same medical community as Tracy, who has been my biggest cheerleader along the way.”
The Tracy she’s referring to is her sister, Tracy Davies, M.D., a primary care physician at Monument Health Rapid City Clinic, Flormann Street. Becky is excited about her new role at Spearfish Hospital, and being near her sister and the rest of her family is the icing on the cake.
Both sisters trained in Family Medicine, and both are passionate about delivering the best possible patient care. “Family Medicine is fun because every day is different and we get plenty of new and interesting cases,” says Tracy. “I thoroughly enjoy getting to know my patients and it is truly an honor to care for people in this capacity.” Becky adds, “I most look forward to collaborating with the patient and the inpatient care team to find creative solutions to each day’s challenges. Working in a smaller hospital, we don’t have many of the amenities at our fingertips that I am used to coming from a larger setting. I am continually amazed by the skills of the nurses, therapists and support staff in our small hospital and impressed by the quality of care we deliver as a team.”
There’s a reason that Tracy and Becky both trained in Family Medicine — for the Davies sisters, nothing is more important than family. It’s not unusual to find them, and their own extended families, enjoying the property where their parents maintain a herd of horses. Whether they’re spending time on horseback, doing chores in the barn or playing with the kids, nothing is better than time spent together.
“Being close to my family is everything, and I am overjoyed to have my sister and her little family so close again!” says Tracy. “Watching my own little girls grow up in this beautiful place surrounded by family is a dream come true.”
“It’s wonderful to see my child discover the things that I love dearly about the Black Hills,” adds Becky. “This home shaped me as a person, and I hope that it shapes my family as well.”
