In the ambulatory clinic environment, LPNs and Medical Assistants work together to provide a combination of hands-on and indirect patient support. Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures the examination and treatment spaces are set up according to clinic regulations.
  • Carries out patient rooming protocols, which involve recording vital signs, gathering information, and other specified tasks relevant to the medical facility and within defined Scope of Responsibilities.
  • Administers and records unit dose medications/ immunizations precisely as per clinic protocol after completing training and demonstrating competency.
  • Conducts electrocardiograms and lab examinations as per the clinic's CLIA authorization, adhering to training and proficiency evaluation completion.
  • Verifies that the information documented in the patient's record adheres to the specified Scope of Responsibilities, emphasizing accuracy, clarity, and brevity. Additionally, may function as a scribe for healthcare providers after undergoing proper training.
  • Carries out all specified administrative tasks and manages inventory maintenance and procurement as instructed.
  • Helps to coordinate and manage the scheduling of necessary follow-up medical appointments as prescribed or instructed.
  • Hands out patient educational materials that are pre-printed and approved in advance. Refers any patient inquiries to the healthcare provider or registered nurse.
  • Responsibilities outlined within the documented Monument Health Scope of Work.
  • Fulfilling any additional tasks as required.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies; Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant University or accredited training facilityCertification - Medical Assistant-Certified (MA) by one of the listed certifying bodies; Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Professional Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) - Within 60 days of hire or transfer.

Any Medial Assistant hired between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2024 may be granted 6 months to obtain national certification.

Any Medical Assistant hired after July 1, 2024 must hold one of the following national certifications upon hire:

  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)

Regarding BLS certification:

The department you are applying to may require BLS certification sooner than 60 days post transfer/hire. The hiring manager will discuss this with you if it is applicable.

Preferred:

Education - Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursingCertification - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - South Dakota Board of NursingExperience - 1+ years of Clinical Experience; 1+ years of Healthcare Experience

Physical Requirements:

Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
