As an LPN or Medical Assistant, you'll collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver both direct and indirect patient care in an outpatient clinic environment. You'll engage actively in your role and complete assigned tasks following Monument Health's policies and procedures to effectively address each patient's needs.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Properly prepares the examination and treatment areas per clinic standards.
  • Performs patient rooming procedures, including taking vital signs, collecting data, and handling other clinic-specific tasks as outlined in the Scope of Responsibilities.
  • Accurately administers and documents unit dose medications/ immunizations in accordance with clinic policy following successful training/competency.
  • Performs EKG's and laboratory testing per CLIA license of the clinic following successful training/competency.
  • Ensures that patient record documentation is accurate, clear, and concise, adhering to the outlined Scope of Responsibilities. May also take on the role of a provider scribe after completing the necessary training.
  • Completes all assigned clerical activities and supply maintenance/ordering as directed.
  • Assists with scheduling follow up care/appointments as ordered/directed.
  • Distributes patient education materials that have been pre-printed and pre-approved. Redirects any patient inquiries to the provider or registered nurse.
  • Functions within the documented Monument Health Scope of Responsibilities.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies; Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant University or accredited training facility

Certification - Medical Assistant-Certified (MA) by one of the listed certifying bodies; Basic Life Support (BLS)

Healthcare Professional Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) within 60 days of hire

Any Medial Assistant hired between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2024 may be granted 6 months to obtain national certification.

Any Medical Assistant hired after July 1, 2024 must hold one of the following national certifications upon hire:

  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)

Preferred:

Education - Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing

Certification - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

Experience - 1+ years of Clinical Experience; 1+ years of Healthcare Experience

Physical Requirements:

Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
