RAPID CITY, S.D. (June 17, 2022) – Interventional Cardiologist Bhaskar Purushottam, M.D., FACC, FSCAI, FSVMB, of the Monument Health Heart and Vascular Institute has coauthored a chapter in the textbook “Interventional Cardiology: Principles and Practice, Third Edition.”

The chapter, “Popliteal Artery Interventions,” deals with treatments he has developed for a type of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), which is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States. The popliteal artery carries blood to the body’s lower extremities. Like other arteries, it can be susceptible to atherosclerosis, or buildup of plaque. The textbook will be published in July.

In addition, Dr. Purushottam presented at LINC 2022, the world’s largest  endovascular conference, held the first of week of June at Leipzig, Germany. He spoke about his novel interventional techniques and cases, which include “Inferior Venacava tear,” “Distal embolization following intravascular lithotripsy” and “Bifurcation stenting of the right subclavian and common carotid arteries.”
