RAPID CITY, S.D. (April 25, 2022) – In recognition of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, Monument Health Dermatology staff will be offering free skin cancer screenings on Melanoma Monday, May 2, in Rapid City and Spearfish.
- In Rapid City, the screenings will be performed at the Community Health Center of the Black Hills, 350 Pine St., from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Call 605-755-7100 to schedule a screening.
- In Spearfish, the screenings will be performed at Monument Health Dermatology, 550 E. Colorado Blvd., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Call 605-717-8860 to schedule a screening.
According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 5 million cases are diagnosed in the United States each year. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer.
However, skin cancer is usually curable when detected and treated early. Skin cancer is also one of the most preventable forms of cancer. Long-sleeved shirts, broad brimmed hats and sunscreen lotions can all block the ultraviolet radiation that causes skin cancer.
