Job Summary

Supervises the clinical experiences in conjunction with the accredited academic institution that meets the requirements of the academic institution and that allows the student to develop entry-level competencies. Completes, in conjunction with the academic institution, the evaluation procedures with respect to student progress. Assists the academic institution with selecting qualified students for our hospital clinical rotation. Maintains knowledge in educational methodology, laboratory technology, and management. Demonstrates a commitment to cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction by establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships, by promoting professionalism, and by communicating effectively. Performs and is proficient in job duties that are required for employees and students in the laboratory.

Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Administers and collects participant evaluations of training programs.
  • Completes projects without direct supervision, employing initiative, innovation, and time management skills as observed by the director.
  • Effectively communicates and cooperates with co-workers, and shares information necessary for smooth flow of departmental activities.
  • Initiates problem solving through appropriate verbal and written communications which are complete, clear, concise, logically ordered, professionally delivered, and result in intended understanding.
  • Maintains program files in such a manner that program/project data is retrievable upon request.
  • Coordinates meetings between Rapid City Hospital resource personnel and designated affiliate organizations, as evidenced by observation, documentation, and/or feedback.
  • Develops Clinical Competency program/plan for area of responsibility. Maintains complete, thorough, and organized documentation of clinical competency assessments that meets hospital policy and Joint Commission Standards.
  • Coordinates quality control, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities
  • Develops, coordinates, and performs instruction and training for staff and students.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements


Education - Associates in Medical Laboratory Technology

Certification - Medical Lab Technician (MLT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

Work Experience - 1+ years in Laboratory Experience


Education - Bachelors degree Medical Technology

Certifications - Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or Medical Technology (MT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

Work Experience - 1+ years in Education Trainer Experience

Physical Demands
Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
