Job Summary

Monument Health is seeking a board certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our collaborative care team to provide Neonatology services at a 28-bed Level III NICU.

Under supervision of an attending neonatologist and following established protocols, our nurse practitioner has responsibility for assessment and management of patients including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and daily implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. In addition to managing patient care, the NP may be required to utilize invasive interventions and procedures to promote physiologic stability as well as attending ground and fixed wing transports.

The role will also include off-shift responsibility. The off shift rotation schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and will be determined by the clinical needs of the practice environment.

Job Responsibilities
• Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patient for urgent and emergent conditions. Uses relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability. Utilizes the data to formulate a plan of care.
• Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice Document and approved as a part of the credentialing/privileging process.
• Analyzes the indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions.
• Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient’s response to therapy. Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes.
• Incorporates health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of the complex acute, critical and chronic illness.
• Accompany ground and fixed wing neonatal transports.
• Facilitates the patient’s transitions between and within health care settings.
• Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff, and provider team.
• Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Participates in the professional development of others. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students, and other health care providers.
• Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
● Consistently demonstrates appropriate referral and/or transfer of patients to another facility.
● Demonstrates a thorough and current knowledge of disease processes while conducting a comprehensive health history and physical examination or problem-focused assessment depending on patient’s status.
● Demonstrates the ability to appropriately assess patients, apply clinical interventions, evaluate outcomes, and implement changes to the plan of care. Anticipates and communicates changes in patient status to meet the needs of the patient.
● Documentation is thorough utilizing appropriate format and completed according to facility policy as evidenced by observation, documentation, and/or feedback.
● Orders appropriate tests, procedures, and therapies in collaboration with medical staff based on relevant organizational and unit-specific policies/procedures.
● Performs and documents ongoing patient assessment and formulates plan of care in collaboration with other medical providers.
● Performs procedures and examinations within scope of practice, consistent with specific policies/procedures and scope of care under the guidance of the supervising physician(s).
● Recognizes physical, developmental, and psychosocial distress of patient and family, and provides appropriate interventions.
● Responds appropriately to emergency situations, basing patient management decisions on individual patient needs.
● Utilizes critical thinking in implementing and coordinating medical and nursing interventions as evidenced by observation and feedback.

Certifications - Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
Physician Assistant (PA) - South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners

Experience - 1+ years of Clinical Experience; 1+ years of Healthcare Experience

Physical Requirements:
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
