Job Description

Essential Functions:

Utilizes the ANA Nursing Process (2010) for carrying out the subsequent activities:

  • Procures comprehensive data related to the healthcare user's health status and/or situation.
  • Analyzes the assessment data with the goal of identifying the diagnosis or concerns.
  • Illustrates projected goals for a customized approach designed for the healthcare customer involved.
  • Constructs a thorough outline that provides strategies and choices to reach the desired objectives.
  • Implements the recognized plan effectively. Ensures ongoing progress for the patient in accordance with the plan.
  • The Coordination of Care role is centered around coordinating the delivery of care to individuals.
  • Strategies utilized in health teaching and health promotion are geared toward promoting health and ensuring a safe environment.
  • In consultation, advanced practice registered nurses and nursing role specialists work to shape the identified plan, enhance the abilities of others, and drive transformation.
  • Evaluates the progress in reaching pre-determined results.

Maintains alignment with the ANA's Professional Performance standards from 2010:

  • Systematic improvement of nursing practice to increase quality and efficacy
  • Attains the required knowledge and competence in line with modern nursing practice standards
  • Assessing personal nursing practices with regard to professional standards, guidelines, and relevant legal regulations
  • Networks with and assists in the professional development of team members and associates
  • Engages in teamwork with patients, families, and relevant individuals to execute nursing duties effectively
  • Integrates ethical guidelines uniformly across practice realms
  • Translating research outcomes into actionable steps
  • When strategizing and administering nursing services, one must consider safety, effectiveness, fiscal implications, and the influence on nursing practice
  • Offers mentorship and guidance in the professional practice setting and the industry

  • Practices within the legal scope of a Registered Professional Nurse as outlined by the state in which employment occurs and delivers competent care consistent with standards / policies, laws, regulators/accreditation/certifying organizations.
  • Follows the ethical provisions outlined in the Code of Ethics for Nurses as established by the ANA in 2010.

Shows expertise in using relevant technology and software to:

  • Aid in documenting and supporting the nursing interventions and patient support.
  • Connect with essential work-related software, such as corporate email platforms, training modules, staff surveys, benefits information, and policy guidelines to actively contribute to the organization.
  • Always seeking ways to enhance the quality of patient care provision through innovative and creative approaches to problem-solving.
  • Meeting any other obligations as given.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursingCertifications - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) - Within 60 days of hire or transfer; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

Regarding BLS certification:

The department you are applying to may require BLS certification sooner than 60 days post transfer/hire. The hiring manager will discuss this with you if it is applicable.

Preferred:

Experience - 5+ years of Registered Nurse Experience

Education - Bachelors degree in Nursing

Physical Requirements:

Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
