Job Summary

The Radiology Technologist may work in both ambulatory and acute care settings, performing and demonstrating competence in Radiology under the guidance of the Radiologist. The Technologist must be capable of independently acquiring the correct exam for the Radiologist’s interpretation and be proficient in operating all radiological equipment in the appropriate environment. Additionally, the Technologist will work with patients across different age groups, including pediatric, geriatric, febrile, and acute care patients, adjusting techniques and positioning to ensure optimal imaging results.

The Technologist is responsible for preparing exam rooms, transporting patients, entering exams into the Radiology Information System, scheduling radiology exams, and educating patients on exam preparation. They must ensure correct orders and paperwork are in place for records, billing, and communication with medical staff as needed. The Technologist will also maintain the necessary knowledge for the PACS. They may share on-call duties and, depending on the needs of the care environment, may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as directed by the department leader. The Technologist is expected to report any equipment malfunctions or failures to their immediate supervisor, maintenance staff, or bio-med services as needed. They must follow all policies and procedures established by the Medical Imaging Department, the facility, and the organization.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of patient positioning practices, CR/DR fundamentals, Fluoroscopy implementation in acute care facilities, quality control measures, image editing processes, and exhibits the ability to efficiently schedule their tasks. They may support physicians in performing various procedures.
  • Establishes a supportive setting for educational purposes.
  • Engaging in teamwork with additional imaging departments to manage patient care and maintain smooth operations in the care facility.
  • Radiology technologists at Monument Health prioritize creating an educational setting where students can gain valuable experience during their clinical rotations.
  • Consistently proves to be capable of efficiently executing multiple complex tasks and supporting the continuous technical education of imaging staff, physicians, and radiography students.
  • The safety of individuals within the healthcare setting is prioritized through the enforcement of infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Implementing a culture of radiologic safety involves the conscientious practice of radiation protection methods to reduce radiation exposure for patients and healthcare workers, encompassing the use of beam restrictive devices, patient shielding procedures, familiarity with exposure factors, and the regular monitoring of radiation doses through wearable badges
  • Emphasizes patient contentment by promptly and politely organizing appointments. Ensures the collection of precise information and its proper documentation in the patient scheduling software. Demonstrates a positive demeanor and a customer-centric approach. Interacts with patients and others in a friendly, cheerful, and supportive manner. Capable of meeting the needs of patients and others while following office procedures and protocols in both physical and telephonic interactions.
  • Adept at safely maneuvering and transferring patients with the aid of ceiling and similar lifting equipment.
  • Assists in the upkeep of the department by maintaining a tidy workspace, performing preventive maintenance tasks, restocking supplies, and reporting equipment malfunctions as needed.
  • Administers the proper dosage of contrast using sterile techniques as outlined in the Infection Control manual. Records information accurately in the patient's chart. Has successfully completed training on operating the injector system.
  • Assesses the patient's condition, medical history, and doctor's orders; seeks advice from a radiologist for any uncertainties. Identifies the proper positioning and selects the correct patient from the list of assignments.
  • Consistently gets the patient and equipment prepared for the upcoming procedure and ensures the patient or their family is well-informed about the procedure. Engages in professional and tailored patient interactions based on age specifics.
  • Willingness to undertake miscellaneous assignments as given.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent: General Studies

Continuing education in radiology through a post-graduate program

Graduate - Radiology ProgramCertification - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) - Within 60 days of hire or transfer; Radiologic Technologist (RT) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Regarding BLS certification: The department you are applying to may require BLS certification sooner than 60 days post transfer/hire. The hiring manager will discuss this with you if it is applicable.

Preferred:

Experience - 1+ years of Radiographer Experience

Physical Requirements:

Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
