As an Occupational Therapist in outpatient services, your primary responsibility is to assess and treat patients of all age groups to help them achieve maximum function and independence. It is essential to maintain precise documentation of the care provided and support operational tasks for the Rehab Services department as necessary. Engaging in community outreach to offer occupational therapy services in various locations is also a key role for Occupational Therapists.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Displays sound critical thinking and discernment in the care provided. Carries out all treatment interventions following accepted national, departmental, and evidence-backed guidelines. Ensures that the therapy administered meets or exceeds the outcome standards specified by the department.
  • Timely and accurate documentation to adhere to departmental guidelines regarding medical necessity.
  • Completes the essential paperwork for billing accurately, verifying the charges and authorizations included. Demonstrates efficient time management in line with the standards set by the department.
  • Demonstrates an initiative in personal professional growth. Completes all necessary education needed by the Monument Health system and for licensure/certification promptly. Actively advocates for the profession both internally at Monument Health and in the wider community.
  • Offers supervision that meets the expectations set by state, federal guidelines, and professional organizations.
  • Engrosses and informs the patient, family, and caregivers in treatment options, goal setting, and discharge planning as needed.
  • Complies with the regulatory criteria for insurance, accrediting bodies, and state and national regulatory agencies.
  • Undertaking any additional duties as requested.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - Bachelors: Occupational Therapy

Certification - Occupational Therapist (OT) - South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners

Preferred:

Education - Masters: Occupational Therapy

Physical Requirements:

Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
