Job Summary

Working in a Level II trauma hospital, the CT Technologist performs Computed Tomography procedures while being supervised by a Radiologist. It is crucial for the technologist to independently select the appropriate exam for the Radiologist's evaluation and to proficiently handle all CT equipment in the correct setting. This position requires interaction with patients from different age categories, including pediatric, geriatric, febrile, and critically ill individuals, and adjusting techniques and positioning as needed to ensure optimal imaging results.

The CT Technologist will be responsible for meeting the needs of outpatients, inpatients, and emergency department patients in a high-volume, Level II hospital, treating a range of patients including ambulatory, non-ambulatory, acute and chronically ill, trauma, and stroke patients. Duties include preparing exam rooms, transporting patients, entering exams into the Radiology Information System, scheduling CT exams, educating patients on exam preparation, ensuring correct orders and paperwork for records and billing, and communicating with medical staff as needed. The CT Technologist will maintain proficiency in PACS and will be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as directed by the department leader. Additionally, the technologist will report any equipment malfunctions or failures to their immediate supervisor, maintenance staff, or bio-med services as necessary. The CT Technologist must adhere to all policies and procedures established by the Medical Imaging Department, the facility, and the organization.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of patient positioning techniques, CT radiation exposure principles, quality control procedures, image reconstruction strategies, and specialized protocols relevant to a Level II trauma facility. This includes expertise in TAVR, perfusion studies, Cardiac CTA, AFIB angiograms, complex trauma situations, and angiograms. Shows skill in patient prioritization, task planning, assisting physicians, and providing an educational setting.

  • Follows infection-control policies and protocols to provide a secure environment for patients and employees.
  • Higher exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common in a level II hospital environment.
  • Focuses on patient satisfaction by scheduling appointments promptly and courteously. Obtains accurate information and properly documents on patient scheduling system. Has positive attitude and customer service mind set. Friendly, cheerful and helpful to patients and others. Ability to meet patients and others needs while following office policies and procedures in person and on the telephone.
  • Capable of safely and effectively moving patients using various lift systems including ceiling hoists.
  • - Competent in administering the accurate quantity of contrast utilizing aseptic methods specified in the Infection Control manual.
  • Cultivates and bolsters teamwork within the team. Shows a willingness to learn new procedures and take on extra responsibilities. Is consistently punctual and prepared for the designated work hours.
  • Logs pertinent information accurately into patient charts.
  • Shares responsibility for maintaining the department by ensuring the work area is clean, conducting preventive maintenance activities, restocking supplies, and reporting any equipment malfunctions.
  • Validates the correct invoicing of the procedure and its associated materials.
  • Studies the patient's condition, medical records, and physician's requests; consults with the radiologist if there are any uncertainties. Establishes the proper positioning and selects the correct patient from the provided list.
  • Offers radiologists high-quality images for accurate assessments.
  • Consistently organizes the patient and equipment for the upcoming procedure. Educates the patient and/or their family about the procedure in advance. Demonstrates professional and age-specific communication with patients.
  • Effectively works with necessary computer software (like PACs, RIS, Vrad) while also well-versed in manual backup procedures.
  • Additional obligations as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent: General Studies

Graduate - Radiology Program

Certifications - Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) - Within 60 days of hire or transfer​; (ARRT)(R) (CT) American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification with advanced certification in Cat Scan or completion of CT Registry within 12 months of hire.

Regarding BLS certification:

The department you are applying to may require BLS certification sooner than 60 days post transfer/hire. The hiring manager will discuss this with you if it is applicable.

Preferred:

Education - Associates: Related Field Experience - 1+ years of Customer Service Experience; 1+ years of Radiographer Experience

**Policy Number: MIS-7040-115 - Caregivers must be BLS certified upon employment or within their 90-day probation period.

Physical Requirements:

Very heavy work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
