Job Summary

$10,000 Sign On Bonus Available for Qualified Applicants

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing all echocardiography-related procedures in varied settings. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular principles and ultrasound physics and instrumentation as well as the ability to produce and evaluate cardiac ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The cardiac sonographer is responsible for acting as a liaison between staff, physicians, patients and family members while exercising discretion and judgment in the performance of the clinical examination. The cardiac sonographer will also provide the physician with an oral or written summary of the technical findings as well as provide patient education. The cardiac sonographer serves patients of all ages. This position includes on-call duties (nights, weekends and Holidays) on a rotational basis.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Administers precise cardiac evaluations following the prescribed departmental protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Competent in operating echocardiography tools and interpreting data.
  • Inspects the requisition to ensure the adequacy of the requested procedures, the scheduled examination date, and the indication for the examination.
  • The job entails performing venipuncture, establishing an intravenous access, and dispensing intravenous fluids, ultrasound enhancing agents, or other medications to heighten image quality or acquire further diagnostic data.
  • Offers correct data to cardiologists interpreting exam studies as per examination policy directives.
  • Utilizes imaging techniques that are well-suited for the purpose of the examination.
  • Illustrates expertise in capturing and forwarding echocardiogram pictures to the necessary PACs system.
  • Provides the cardiologist with relevant preliminary data to access within the EMR.
  • Ensures that the EMR accurately reflects the procedure type and corresponding charges for the supplies used.
  • Satisfies the quality requirements specified for the lab by the medical imaging director.
  • Demonstrating keen observation and flexibility in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Execute any further tasks as instructed.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - Associates degree in Applied Science

Certification - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) Certification - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

Preferred:

Experience - 1+ years of Cardiac Sonographer Experience; Experience performing TEEs within the last year; Previous experience performing Stress Echo within the last year

Education - Bachelors degree in Ultrasound

Physical Requirements:

Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
