RAPID CITY, S.D. (Aug. 21, 2019) – James Grimsrud, BSN, a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, has received the prestigious DAISY Award. Part of a national program, the award is presented to nurses who go above and beyond for their patients and community. He was nominated by the spouse of a patient.
“James always had a smile every time he entered the room and always acted like my husband was his only patient,” she wrote. “His bedside manner is by far one of the best. He did not ever make it seem he was there to be paid, and he made my husband feel like he was truly there because he cared. His compassion for his patients is what made my husband feel comfortable to let him treat/help him.”
The DAISY Award recognizes the outstanding professionalism and compassion that nurses bring to patients and families every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in California in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of an autoimmune disease. DAISY is an acronym for “diseases attacking the immune system.” Nurses in Rapid City are selected 12 times a year for this recognition. Nurses are also honored in Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Spearfish and Sturgis. Visit regionalhealth.org/daisy to nominate a nurse.
